It is agreed that the new Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) are leading to enormous socio-economic and political changes for both the individual and society. Further research is needed in order to fully understand the transformations and the security needs to which they give rise.

The Gottlieb Daimler and Karl Benz Foundation (Ladenburg, Germany) was supporting the interdisciplinary Kolleg "Security in Communication Technology", directed by Prof. Dr. Günter Müller (University of Freiburg, Institute for Informatics and Social Studies, Dept. of Telematics) in this research.
